A uniquely designed segment shell that is 3/8″ thick in all solid wood maple with an exotic cocobolo inner section and wenge wood border stripes. All finished in our premium high gloss clear coat which can be a very daunting task on exotic woods. The hardware is our custom plated antique brushed copper that matches perfectly with the dark wood grain and warm colored undertones. Special touches also include the custom plated parts on the Trick multi step throwoff and butt plate, along with a custom made matching cocobolo tear drop knob on the throwoff handle.
We did this custom paint job for a good friend on his own handmade maple stave shells. This was a custom blend of 2 colors creating this vibrant Purple Kandy that fades to natural maple under our high gloss finish. These raw shell pictures are before we buffed them to a flat mirror finish, and then one completed by the customer with his choice of parts. Contact us if you would like any help with your next drum build within any area of completion. We offer all the same paint, wrap, bearing edges, drilling, parts, shells, etc., that you would find our own high quality CT drums.

What do you do with some left over walnut boards? Well, build a cool snare drum of course! A killer little snare drum that is great for recording, jazz, soft rock, etc. It has a drier tone than maple and a touch darker. Walnut is typically more mid focused as it is a much softer wood than maple which has extreme highs and lows. Everyone has loved this snare in our back stock and hopefully we can keep it long enough to make a video demo. This 5.5×14″ solid stave shell is only 3/8″ thick to help add more resonance and body. The drum is finished in our natural satin oil and shows off the amazing figure of this unique walnut, and take note of the second picture showcasing the sapwood walnut sections which is a lighter color. All chrome hardware includes full length tube lugs, 2.3mm triple flanged hoops, and an RCK throwoff.
A unique snare that has become very popular for its sleek looks and awesome sound. A 7×13″ solid stave shell with alternating bubinga and curly soft maple in a natural satin stain that brings all the wood character out and helps protect the solid boards when changing environments and climates. The 1/2″ thickness adds high end and volume for a tighter crack. The all satin chrome hardware includes matching solid brass full length tube lugs, die cast hoops for extra pop and greater rimshots, and even a matching air vent that is rarely seen. The Trick multi step throwoff in brushed aluminum matches the hardware perfectly. We have done this shell in similar sizes and hardware setups, but the matching satin finish on the shells and hardware speaks for itself. Already on its way out to Massachusetts.
A custom shell we worked on for a repeat customer. This shell is a 6×13″ segment solid wood that is 9/16″ thick made of exotic Wenge with a Bloodwood center stripe. Segment shells are constructed much like a brick pattern that utilize solid wood pieces, much like our Stave Shells but in a different construction. We hosed the shell down with a ton super high gloss clear coat and buffed to a perfect mirror-like finish. The snare is dressed with all brass hardware including full length tube lugs, 2.3mm triple flanged hoops, P86 throwoff and butt plate, and remo drumheads w/ german snare wires.
Unbelievable amounts of body and full wood tone come from thinner stave drums. Solid wood stave drums are available in all varieties of wood types, shell thicknesses and sizes. This gives you ultimate control to capture the individual tonal qualities of each specific wood, the amount of body or attack and volume due to it’s thickness, all with your requested size of depth and diameter. This natural satin oil 5×14″ curly maple 7/16″ stave has a sweet drum tone and an amazing amount of body for it’s 5″ depth. Attached are turret double ended lugs that create less mass on the shell and only one drilling point, 2.3mm triple flanged hoops, a Nickelworks black and chrome throwoff.
We combined two very popular woods made for their great drum tone to create a unique and powerful snare drum. With our vast array of solid woods to choose for your stave shells, we can mix or combine any choice as each wood type has a different tone, projection and attack. Bubinga is sonically a darker and deeper sound than maple which is already warm with plenty of tone and tuning range. This shell with alternating staves is a very deep sounding and well rounded snare drum with a bit more darker attack and lower tone. Finished in our natural satin oil topcoat paired with our unique satin chrome hardware, including full length tube lugs, 2.3mm triple flanged hoops, a Trick multi step throwoff, Puresound snare wires and Remo drumheads. This was the second CT drum built for GRADY SAXMAN, a very busy drummer in Nashville, TX.
