A very heartfelt build for the LOVE YOUR DRUMS FUNDRAISER, a tribute for our friend and fellow drum builder Dennis Stauffer. Dennis was the sole owner and builder at Phattie Drums and Stauffer Percussion who’s recent passing in early January 2012 hit hard with the drum community. Dennis was well known to be a honest and passionate person whose craftmanship and innovation helped lead the forefront in custom drums. Personally for CT Drums, Dennis had contributed many industry trade secrets, sold us custom designed jigs, and we traded backordered parts and items in desperate times of need.

This snare drum is one of the amazing 40+ snares and 3+ drum kits (nearly $30,000 total value) that you can win from the fundraiser. All proceeds of the raffle conducted by the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund will be held on May 20, 2012 at the Chicago Drum Show. The specs on this drum we donated are a 6×14″ Standard Series 8ply Maple shell with an exotic veneer of wavy zebrawood which is uniquely different from typical straight grained zebrawood. Added matching maple hoops with inner ply of matching zebrawood and outside inlayed stripe in between exotic wenge wood. No stains or dyes, all mother nature here. Finished with our natural satin oil that highlights the natural beauty and character of the wood. All black nickel parts include full length tube lugs, rounded butterfly claws and a Nickelworks throwoff.

6×14″ Curly Olive Ash Snare

We hand picked this awesome piece of exotic veneer for this special drum. We have complete access to multiple types of veneers and species. The tight curly figure in this olive ash pops under our natural satin oil finish over our Standard Series Maple 8ply workhorse snare. Fitted with all chrome hardware, including vintage tube lugs x10, triple flanged 2.3mm hoops, a Trick multi step throwoff, and German brass wires.

4pc Brilliant Blue Burst Kit

Lately one of our newest and most popular drum finishes in a very versatile kit. This kit is a Standard Series maple kit (6ply toms and 8ply kick) in Brilliant Blue Burst Satin Stain which is a bright medium blue stain that fades to a rich black. Sizes include a 16×20″ kick drum, 8×10″ and 8×12″ rack toms, and a 12×14″ floor tom on a DSS suspension cradle. Great sizes for any style of player. This kit sounds warm and full of resonance due to the thinner shells and our CT bearing edges. All chrome hardware includes 1″ mini tube lugs inline, 2.3mm triple flanged hoops, pro spurs, DSS suspension mounts and floor tom cradle, air suspension floor tom legs, pro spurs and Remo drumheads.

Offset Stripes, Offset Lugs & A Unique Finish

This custom wrap was a specialty made item that we may have to reorder it is so cool. It can be available for any color or wrap type. It consists of a solid black base with a 30% satin sheen topcoat with a hint of metallic, so it is not completely a matte finish and the metallic hint adds a bit of silvery glisten and contains a unique scratch resistance. Each drum has an offset red glass glitter stripe that is tightly butted up against the black and with a proportionately sized stripe per drum size. Tying the whole kit together, we added internal red glass on the inside of both bass drum hoops while we stained the wood edges with all black satin stain. Our all black nickel hardware fits perfectly, including 50% offset mini 1″ tube lugs, 2.3mm triple flanged hoops, pro spurs, heavy duty hinged brackets, 12″ DSS mount, and matching die cast claws. This Standard Series maple kit has a thunderous 20×24″ kick, 9×12″ tom, and a 16×16″ floor. A very cool kit for Mic Rawls who is already hitting the streets with his 3 bands.

7×13″ Snare with Tons of Pop and Tone

A funky 13″ snare drum that has tons of pop and tone. The 8ply maple of our Standard Series coupled with the 7″ depth and 13″ diameter creates a full bodied snare drum that has a tighter attack and warm tone. Finished in our Natural Satin Oil on a beautiful shell we chose with some slight curly figuring. All chrome hardware including full length solid brass tube lugs, 2.3mm triple flanged hoops for a more open tone, and an RCK throwoff.

Piano Black Snare w/ Custom S-Hoops

Typically one of the notoriously hardest finishes to get right. Our perfect piano black solid lacquer is created with the purest black pigment and a flawlessly smooth gloss top coat that creates a true mirror reflection. A true first-class finish on a versatile snare drum size and thickness. Proven to be great for any style of music. Also featured on this snare are specialty S-Hoops that have a reverse flange on the top of the hoop that flattens out across the drumhead to add extra crack to your rimshots and cross stick sounds. S-hoops are compared to die cast hoops but with open tone of typical triple flanged hoops. A 5.5×14″ Standard Series 8ply Maple shell including ten full length chrome over brass tube lugs, a Trick multi step throwoff, and german snare wires.

6.5×13″ White Marine Pearl

A very popular size for all styles of music when you require a more focused “pop” than what you get out of a typical 14″ snare. This Standard Series 8ply maple shell coupled with this size creates a well balanced open tone with a tighter snap but plenty of depth. Great for a main snare, or in this case for Don Updike, a great addition to anyone’s snare collection. Professionally wrapped in White Marine Pearl with all chrome hardware, including full length tube lugs, a RCK throwoff, and 2.3mm triple flanged hoops.

Exotic Mappa Burl Veneer Snare

Nature’s best. An exotic Mappa Burl veneer that features tons of curly and quilted figuring and a “peppered” burl look that looks killer on our high gloss lacquer. An 8ply maple Standard Series shell with our CT bearing edges and smooth snare beds. The natural finished veneer is really set off by the black nickel hardware. Hardware includes solid brass DF tube lugs, Nickelworks black with black nickel throwoff, 2.3mm triple flanged hoops for a more open full bodied tone, german snare wires and Remo drumheads.
